Be all you can be!

Welcome to Year 4

Teachers: Mrs Canning & Miss Kelly

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Hadley

In Year 4, we prepare the children for Upper Key Stage 2. We increase independence and encourage children to take pride in the work that they produce including their presentation and the accuracy and volume of work.

PE

PE is on Monday for Year 4.  Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit which is: a white t-shirt/polo shirt, a blue school jumper/cardigan, black/blue jogging bottoms/leggings/shorts and trainers.

Reading

Your child should read at home every day. We recommend that your child reads at home for at least 25 minutes every day and at least twice a week with an adult. We set online books to read for homework using Oxford Owl every week. In school, we listen to children read during Guided Reading sessions and comprehension lessons. Children are always welcome to borrow a book from the class library to read at home.

Homework

Homework will be set via Google Classroom every week and we expect it to be completed.

Monday – Spelling & Reading (Oxford Owl)

Wednesday – Comprehension

Thursday – Maths (including 10 minutes daily on Time Table Rockstar)

Your child will receive maths homework linked to our topic. We will also send out a variety of additional pieces of homework linked to our topic.

Each week we will set aside time to look at the work/photographs uploaded to the Google classroom.  Please feel free to share anything that you do outside of school that may be of interest to the whole class.

Our Curriculum

Our “Wider Study” curriculum is an exciting way of delivering a broad and balanced education that makes learning fun and raises standards.  The topics your child will cover this year are:

  • Invasion
  • Misty Mountains, Winding Rivers
  • Ancient Civilisation
