Welcome to Year 5
Teachers: Mr Davies & Mrs Marsham
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Jennings
In Year 5, we aim to support the children in developing their thinking and enquiring minds with a spirit of curiosity. Our broad and creative curriculum enables children to have independence over their learning and supports them in becoming highly motivated and lifelong learners.
PE for year 5 is timetabled below. Children are expected to come to school on their PE day wearing their full PE kit. Please be aware that children will be wearing this all day so it will need to be appropriate for the weather.
5D: Monday
5M: Monday
Reading
At home, we expect children to read for 15-20 minutes at least 3 times a week. We will encourage children in school but we ask you to support your child
with this at home too.
Suggestions of quality texts are
* The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken
* Street Child by Berlie Doherty
* The Midnight Fox by Betsy Byars
* Tom's Midnight Garden by Philippa Pearce
* Farther by Grahame Baker-Smith
* Wonder by R J Palacio
Homework
Homework is an integral part of learning. We use the Google Classroom to set homework and children have a week to complete each piece before electronically submitting it by the following week.
Monday - Spelling homework set ready for spelling test on Fridays.
Wednesdays - English homework (Comprehension, writing or grammar)
Thursdays - Maths homework
The children have all been provided with a Google Classroom login, enabling them to communicate with their teachers, access resources and complete their homework online. All the homework set will support the learning we have been doing in class that week. We expect all children
to attempt the homework on a regular basis. In addition to the work set on Google Classroom, your child will also have a Times Tables Rockstars login so they can use this at home to support the learning of their times tables. If your child cannot access Google Classroom due to technical logistics, please inform their teacher who will have a paper copy of the work set for them to take home and complete.
Our Curriculum
We use a thematic approach as an exciting way of delivering a broad
and balanced curriculum that makes learning fun and raises standards.
The topics your child will cover this year are:
Off with Her Head
Sow, Grow and Farm
Groundbreaking Greeks
