Welcome to Year 6
Teachers: Mr Harris, Mrs Robinson & Mr Roe
Teaching Assistant: Miss Doody
In Year 6, we strive to make the children’s final year at Twickenham Primary School a memorable one. We ensure the children leave our school with the academic, organisational, social and emotional skills to move smoothly on to the next stage of their educational journey at secondary school.
PE
6H: Wednesday.
6ER: Wednesday.
6JR: Wednesday.
Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their correct PE kit which is: a white t-shirt/polo shirt, a blue school jumper/cardigan, black/blue jogging bottoms/leggings/shorts and trainers.
Reading
Your child should bring their reading book to school every day. We recommend that your child reads at home for at least 25 minutes every day and at least twice a week with an adult. Your child can choose a book from our school library or bring their own book from home to read in school.
Google Classroom
Homework will be set via Google Classroom every Friday and must be completed and ‘handed in’ electronically the following Thursday. If your child cannot access Google Classroom due to technical difficulties, they will be given a paper copy to take home and return to school. We may also set one-off tasks for your child to complete in addition to Fridays.
All children have been provided with a Google Classroom log in. The homework set will be linked to your child’s learning in class and gives them the opportunity to apply this learning independently.
Each week we will set aside time to look at the work/photographs uploaded to the Google classroom. Please feel free to share anything that you do outside of school that may be of interest to the whole class.

Our Curriculum
We use a thematic approach as an exciting way of delivering a broad and balanced curriculum that inspires children to nurture a passion for lifelong learning. The topics your child will cover this year are:
Maafa
A project that teaches children about Africa past and present, with a particular focus on Benin. It traces the development of the slave trade and explores Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, the causes and consequences of the European colonisation of Africa and the worldwide communities that make up the African diaspora.
Frozen Kingdoms
This project teaches children about the characteristics and features of polar regions, including the North and South Poles, and includes a detailed exploration of the environmental factors that shape and influence them.
Britain at War
This project teaches children about the causes, events and consequences of the First and Second World Wars, the influence of new inventions on warfare, how life in Great Britain was affected and the legacy of the wars in the post-war period.
